Our Mission. Our Vision.
Girls IN Focus’s mission is to connect girls and non-binary youth globally with our trailblazing film programs and have them emerge as industry leaders. Taught by entertainment professionals, our four programs, both online and in-person, offer girls and non-binary youth from around the globe a supportive, unique environment to connect and collaborate, creating films together from concept to festival-ready films.
Girls IN Focus is a non-profit group of film industry professionals, dedicated to expanding the education and support for girls and non-binary youth, ages 12 - 18, who are passionate about pursuing film industry careers. Our goal is to instill knowledge and experience, and provide a network of support that elevates the confidence of our participants to shatter the film industry gender gap.
Examining the 1,300 top films from 2007 to 2019, the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative found that just 4.8 percent of film directors are women. By connecting girls and non-binary youth worldwide and giving them a platform to collaborate on their own film projects, Girls IN Focus will enable its program participants to build lifelong alliances, as well as strong leadership skills. Girls IN Focus mentors are committed to guiding girls and non-binary youth as they become storytellers and content creators.
We believe girls and non-binary youth are infinitely capable and should pursue careers as film writers, directors, producers and directors of photography. Our vision is that, one day, girls and non-binary youth will occupy 50% of film industry jobs, as is their human right. The Girls IN Focus programs advance film education for its participants and ensure their voices make an impact today, so their films may define and preserve our culture in the future.
Girls IN Focus is a 501(c)(3) exempt organization under the Internal Revenue Code.
